Carlos Montanaro envisions vintage timepieces as platforms for creating art.

His premise is “sustainability is as much about recycling as it is about innovation.” He fuses both, restoring and repurposing cast-off pocket watches using a combination of traditional watch-making techniques and fabrication skills (soldering, engraving, piercing, riveting, cold-connecting, chain-making and hand-finishing).

Pushing the boundaries of how we define jewelry, his restored watches showcase historical beauty with a contemporary edge, revealing the mechanical parts of the original timepiece juxtaposed with elements drawn from nature, architecture, and Art Deco design.

He aims for character, depth and playfulness to affirm the value of what we often discard.
